Our company history

AdoptSMT has been active in the electronics industry for more than 30 years. From a two-man operation run from a living room to an international partner for the electronics industry.

1991

Erhard Hofmann and Helmut Fürthaler found Adopt Advanced Optimisation Software GmbH in Salzburg. The name Adopt is derived from the combination of Advanced and Optimisation.
The company, previously software-only, enters into the used machinery business.

1994
1999

Move from Salzburg to the current company building in Grödig near Salzburg.
AdoptSMT Germany and AdoptSMT Polska are founded.

2007
2008

Adopt Advanced Optimisation Software becomes AdoptSMT Europe. AdoptSMT acquires AlternativeSMT, the largest supplier of pre-owned manufacturing equipment in the UK, France, Italy and the Middle East. With this acquisition, AdoptSMT becomes the leading distributor of pre-owned SMT manufacturing equipment in Europe. AlternativeSMT becomes AdoptSMT UK.
Acquisition of the company Intec’s warehouse and employees. Entry into the spare parts and consumables business, as well as the launch of AdoptSMT’s own products.

2009
2011

AdoptSMT becomes the exclusive distributor of Hover-Davis products in Austria, Switzerland and Germany, with territory expansions in 2016 and 2023.
AdoptSMT Swiss is founded. AdoptSMT becomes the exclusive distributor of CCL and Count on Tools in various European countries.

2012
2013

A new distribution partnership with Thermaltronics brings AdoptSMT a generous expansion of its product range in the field of soldering technology.
AdoptSMT France is founded.

2014
2019

AdoptSMT enters into an exclusive distribution partnership with DediProg Technology for some European countries and now offers IC programming solutions. In cooperation with Hover-Davis and ASMPT, AdoptSMT develops special feeders (THT Feeder) for Siplace placement machines.
DI David Laimer is appointed Managing Director of AdoptSMT and is now the majority owner of the group, together with his family.
